I’ve been asked a thousand times why I like visiting Walt Disney World so much. The answer isn’t simple. In all honesty there is a lot I love about Walt Disney World. I love the attractions, shows, food, and the feeling of nostalgia from past trips with my friends and family. The list goes on and on, but more than anything else, there is an x-factor that I can’t personally wrap my head around. There is something special about this place that makes it more than just a couple of fun theme parks.
This undefined variable is the reason why I watched Walt Disney World vlogs late into the night during college, why I decided to work as a cast member in 2013, and why I have the job that I have today. So, when people ask me why I love Walt Disney World, it is almost impossible to answer, because I can never get across what makes it so truly special. To those people, I urge them to experience it for themselves.
I think the Universal Orlando Resort has two wonderful theme parks, and all the resorts are fantastic, but I personally don’t have the same passion for Universal that I do for Walt Disney World. At this point, I’ve defended my love of Walt Disney World for so long that I’ve almost created a false sense of ownership. I’ve been visiting Walt Disney World for as long as I can remember, and if I had been visiting the Disneyland Resort or the Universal Orlando Resort for as long as I have been visiting Walt Disney World, my fandom would probably be very different.
Not to get too psychological, but my love for Disney is similar to a hobby. Why do some people enjoy building model cars or collecting stamps? If these aren’t your hobbies, then both probably seem silly to you, and even a waste of time, but I understand these hobbyists because that is kind of how I feel about Walt Disney World. I don’t blame you for thinking my passion is silly. I certainly disagree, but that is a somewhat interesting thing about hobbies, or passions. They almost always seem weird to everyone else who doesn’t share that passion. So, if you don’t mock me for my Disney passion, I won’t mock you for your hobby.
Walt Disney World is greater than the sum of its parts. That is why Walt Disney World is so special. The American novelist Chuck Palahniuk has said, “The unreal is more powerful than the real, because nothing is as perfect as you can imagine it, because it’s only intangible ideas, concepts, beliefs, fantasies that last. Stone crumbles, wood rots. People, well, they die. But things as fragile as a thought, a dream, a legend, they can go on and on.” So, even though Walt Disney World is a tangible place, what makes it special is that intangible x-factor. I love riding Space Mountain, I love staying at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, and I love eating at Jiko, but none of these things alone make Walt Disney World a special place. My love for Walt Disney World comes from the way it makes me feel. Coming here feels a lot like coming home. There is a happiness, and even a calmness, that I feel after entering Walt Disney World property. It is my happy place. It is a place I can let my guard down, and just enjoy my time with my friends or family. On Walt Disney World property I can forget about the stresses of the real world. I honestly cannot tell you what it is about Walt Disney World that allows me to feel this way. Whatever it is, whatever brings me that happiness, is why I love Walt Disney World so much. Excuse me if I got a little too deep, but I just wanted to get across to you why I love visiting Walt Disney World so much.
