Our own Kathy Werling visited the Magic Kingdom this morning to see what kind of preparations are being made in the theme parks for Hurricane Irma.

Crowds at the Magic Kingdom were incredibly light, with many attractions having little or no wait. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad was a “walk on.”

While it wasn’t evident to most guests, Cast Members had begun with some preparations for the upcoming storm.

Some signs and benches have been tied down to prevent them from blowing away. According to Cast Members, trash cans will be filled with water to prevent them from moving.

On Main Street USA, the scrims hiding some refurbishment have been removed.

Banners near the castle have also been removed.

Stores have pallets of water near the register for guests who need to stock up.

While the park was operating as normal, rains did cause the Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire stage show in front of Cinderella Castle to be cut short.

Magic Kingdom will close at 9:00 p.m. tonight. All of the Walt Disney World theme parks will be closed Sunday and Monday.
