Lucasfilm and IDW Publishing are giving Star Wars fans of all ages a chance to connect with the franchise’s iconic heroines in comic book form. Star Wars Adventures: Forces of Destiny will be a weekly five-issue comic event beginning early next year.
The books will highlight stories of female Star Wars characters spanning the course of the decades-long franchise. Leia from the original trilogy will have a presence, of course, as will Padme from the prequels. The Star Wars animated series will have representation in the forms of Ahsoka and Hera. The comics will also feature characters from the newest films, including Rey and The Last Jedi‘s Rose, and Paige.
As this new series is female focused, so is its creative team, which features some of the most talented women in the industry. Writers for Forces of Destiny include Delilah S. Dawson, Elsa Charretier, Beth Revis, Jody Houser, and Devin Grayson. Art and covers are being handled by Elsa Charretier, Arianna Florean, Eva Widermann, Valentina Pinto, and Nicoletta Baldari. A variant cover by Elsa Charretier will be released for each issue, the total five covers combining to create a single Forces of Destiny image. There will also be collectible animation cell variant covers available, as well as a “super-rare” variant cover by Annie Wu.
IDW’s Senior Editor Denton J. Tipton had this to say about the upcoming series,
“The Forces of Destiny initiative has won over fans with its inspiring tales about these iconic heroes. IDW Publishing couldn’t be more excited to be part of the celebration of these beloved characters.”
